This is a house that grew larger from within. Without altering the external size, the design sought opportunities within the confines of an existing 1924 weatherboard house, transforming it from a run-down state, to a family home for up to three generations to live. The house reaches for space upward, outward and downward and nearly doubled in size and functionality.

With its warm external green colour scheme it sits sympathetically with the bush and with dignity to the street. The proximity of neighbours and the landscape context were important design constraints for achieving privacy, light and outlook. A new skillion roof and glazing to the rear opening the living areas to a mature private terraced garden, where there was previously poor outdoor connection.

The house is a lesson in making the most of what is available rather than unnecessary expansion.

"We really enjoyed working with Mark of STUDIO MYLA as he enabled us to input our visions and hopes to the project while bringing his much valued expertise. Mark has his decades of architectural experience and we trusted his direction throughout the project - we felt like we had a good set of hands when it came to design, budget, mitigating unexpected curveballs, and engaging with contractors. Our home has been totally transformed through the power of good architecture and we’re grateful to enjoy beautiful design in our home everyday. We would wholeheartedly recommend Mark and the team at STUDIO MYLA for anyone considering a renovation - big or small."
