Berhampore Perimeter House is a nurturing family home in direct dialogue with the street and wider landscape. The project comprises a restoration and extension of a two bedroom brick house on a narrow corner site, balancing its contrasting urban, natural and historic masonry context.

The house transforms the site by building to all boundaries in full expression of its extents. In defining the street corner and increasing public-private interaction, the building form inversely creates a sheltered private north-facing yard. Its robust outer shell also contains its soft inner personal spaces.

For the interior, materials, colour, form and light have been considered together. Various levels of privacy and interiority are expressed through surprising shifts in scale, colour and mood-setting spaces. There is evidence of the special collaboration between the architect and potter wife throughout their house, with crisp robust detailing meeting soft interpretive interior design.
